Food Safety & Security

Food Safety in the United States is regulated by both the industry and the government.

The food industry is extremely interested in protecting our food and ensuring its complete safety by statute.

The government has been charged with ensuring the wholesomeness of the entire food supply. The United States government has recently legislated a more thorough evaluation of food safety.

The "FDA Food Safety Modernization Act" (FSMA) has been recently enacted.

The new legislation represents a major reform of the food safety provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and expands significantly the powers of the Food and Drug Administration with respect to food.

The FSMA will allow the FDA to have new prevention focused tools, as well as a clear regulatory framework, to help make substantial improvements in the approach to food safety.

The full implementation of this legislation is likely to take several years. However, several provisions of the new law became effective immediately upon enactment.

Flanyak Scientific can provide expert analysis of the recent FSMA rulemaking and professional guidance with respect to:

1. Registration and inspection

2. Hazard analysis and preventative control plans

3. Imported foods

4. Record keeping and record access involving traceability

5. FDA Updates on FSMA
